Night time hunger affects millions of people across the globe.
This devastating habit of binge eating on fat, sugar and salt is catapulting the Diabetes and Obesity epidemic into a place the world has never seen. Studies predict 1 in 3 of will have Diabetes by 2050. We all tell ourselves “No I am not going to continue eating tonight.” But what do we find our selves doing more often than not? Tearing the kitchen up.
Why are cravings so intense at night?
Blood sugar crashes.
We are habitual creatures.
Adrenal fatigue.
Poor eating habits.
Put an end to Cravings with the Following Plan:
1. NEVER EVER SKIP BREAKFAST
You have just spent the better part of last 12 hours not eating. When you awake your blood sugar is low and cortisol is high. If you skip breakfast you will never quite satisfy your hunger due to this hormonal imbalance.
2. EAT PROTEIN EVERY 3-4 HOURS
By constantly giving yourself fuel (mainly protein, good fats, an clean carbs,) you will keep your blood sugar from crashing and causing insatiable hunger. If you feel too hungry or you feel hypoglycemia kicking in, you have waited too long.
3. ALWAYS EAT AFTER EXERCISE
After exercise your blood sugar is low. If you wait too long to eat your body will respond by the production of Cortisol. Cortisol will release large amounts of stored sugar which in turn will cause your adrenal glands to produce insulin. This insulin surge will cause another drop in blood sugar. This leaves you with an never ending urge to eat.
4. EAT A SMALL SNACK BEFORE BED
Some people wake up and the thought of eating makes them nauseous. This can be due adrenal fatigue. Cortisol produced by the adrenal glands is at its highest in the morning. If your adrenals are fatigued, your cortisol will be low in the morning. Too support your adrenal glands, eat a nutritious snack before bed that will stabilize your blood sugar throughout the night
5. JUICE SOME VEGGIES (WITH A SMALL AMOUNT OF FRUIT)
This is very powerful at curbing your night time craving. It can balance your blood sugar and stabilize your adrenal glands. For a summer time fix, freeze your juices into Popsicle. I have done this and it works every time to curb my night time craving.
