"Once you choose hope, anything is possible."
— Christopher Reeve

It has become a rarity latley that a new patient comes to my office without some level of Anxiety and mild depression.
What is going on?
The current stastics show that 1 in 6 US women are on a anti-depressant drug. Thsese drugs include the popular SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) drugs like Lexapro, Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft -- all of which can cause a weight gain of 10 pounds or more. The truth is your brain does not feel pain. When your brain hurts, you have anxiety or depression or ADD or......
7 Enemies of a Healthy Brain
STRESS
There is an universal agreement that 50% to 75% of patients with major depression exhibit hyperactivity of the HPA axis, Hypothalamus- pititary-adrenal. This causes to much cortisol to be released. It is No Surprize that too much stress ie (cortisol) makes us sad but now we have research to prove it. Proven in Journal of Stress 2008, Cortisol drives Thyptophan to form Glutamate not Serotonin. Serotonin makes us feel good, glutamate does not.
TOXINS
“Scientists estimate that everyone alive today carries within her or his body at least 700 contaminants, most of which have not been well studied (Onstot and others).”
MALNUTRITION
“Malnutrition is a leading cause of disease in both emerging and developed economies.1 While the spectrum of health problems resulting from calorie-protein undernutrition is different from the “empty-calorie” overfeeding” -Mark Houston.............We are literlly eating ourselves to death. The Standard American Diet (SAD) is causing an "evolutionary suicide"
SLEEP DEPRIVATION
Do you remember the last time you slept like a baby and had a full amount of sustained energy all the thoughtout the day? If not did you know that you could becoming an insomonic. If this happens as reported in Sceince Daily, your likely hood of dying from ANYTHING go up 300%
PHYSICAL LAZINESS
Exercise interventions are associated with significant benefits for patients with mild to moderate forms of depression as well as in reducing anxiety. These findings have led to the proposal that exercise may serve as an alternative or a supplement to traditional forms of therapy.
American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, Vol. 1
LACK OF SUN
The symptoms of SAD (Standard American Diet) may be due to changing levels of vitamin D3, the hormone of sunlight. This decrease of vit D Leads to changes in brain serotonin production. Bottom line, we need the Sun to produce the good feeling hormone Seretonin. 20 minutes of sun is needed per day.
