Hopkins Chiropractor for Alzheimers & Dementia

According to one neurology professor, “Alzheimer’s is going to swamp the health care system”.

The medical community has had a hard time making a difference in treating progressive brain impairment, such as Alzheimers and dementia but natural therapies have been found to prevent the onset of symptoms, delay the progression of mental decline and improve quality of life.

Before I dive into the current natural support for Alzheimers and other mental decline conditions, I would like to decribe my personal heart breaking story of brain decline. About a year ago my own father started showing signs of dementia. He had no short term memory, mild paranoia, and he had difficutly communicating with his family. After 2 months under my care, he is about 50% better. He is now communicating with us better, his paranoia is dramitcally less, and his memory is better than he has in the a year ago.

How did this happen my father and the other 7.7 million new cases each year?

The stardard American diet (the

SAD diet) and Chronic Stress is

believed to be the major contributing

factor behind Alzheimer's and dementia.

Many medical circles are now calling Alzheimer's and dementia, Type III diabetes of the Brain. We already know that diabetics are at least twice as likely to experience dementia. The cells of your

brain can become insulin-resistant

just like other cells in the body.  What was once considered a mysterious accumulation of beta amyloid plaques characteristic in the Alzheimer brain is now associated with the same lack of insulin sensitivity that negatively affects

brain cells.

Natural Solutions to Support Alzheimers and Dementia

A. Reduce the Load of Toxic Metals on the Body- Many are unaware that  silver amalgam in teeth fillings contain 50 percent mercury. The research in Peer-reviewed journal articles show that this mercury off-gasses, crosses the blood-brain barrier, and creates the neuro-fibrillary tangles associated with Alzheimer’s.

B. Coconut oil- Medical researchers from the Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, NL, Canada,, reported significant improvements in Alzheimer's disease patients after 45 and 90 days of treatment with medium chain triglycerides from coconut oil.

C. Ketogenic Diet- The ketogenic diet (KD) is a low carbohydrate, high fat diet which decreases blood glucose and elevates blood ketones and has been shown to slow Mental decline progression in animals and humans.

D. Reduce Stress- Stress increases cortisol levels, which often lead to inflammation and hormone imbalance. These in turn can lead to memory and cognitive impairment. This was one of the major issues with my father that lead to his mental decline.

D. Exercise Everyday- Recently, studies using the rat animal model found that the pups of mothers who exercised during pregnancy had increased hippocampal neurogenesis and better memory and learning abilities.

“The basic fact is that one third of our economy profits from making people sick and fat.   The food industry sells products scientifically proven to kill more people than cigarettes, while our health care industry profits from providing more volume of care focused on medication and procedures, not better health.”

-Dr. Mark Hyman
